“Feel Like Goin On”, an exhibition is the first in a series of projects by a collective of photojournalists that investigates and witnesses the depth and breadth of African American life in Pittsburgh. Organized by Erv Dyer and John Monroe Butler and curated by Janera Solomon, “Feel Like Goin On” includes images by a collective of photographers including: Sandra Gould Ford, Carol Moye, Germaine Watkins, Kim Roberts, Frank Hightower and Kenneth. Neely. Inspired by the legacy of Charles “Teenie” Harris, the exhibition seeks to capture and present the complexities of African American life in Pittsburgh.
The show opens Friday September 30, 2005 and runs through October 30th. Friday evening will include light refreshments from 7:00 – 9:00 at the 937 Liberty Avenue space. Gallery Hours on Weekends are 12-5 pm.
Additional events planned include:
- Saturday, Oct. 1, “Meet the Photographers” and listen to the exhibit's photographers discuss their images and joys and challenges of photographing in Pittsburgh.
- Saturday, Oct. 15, a workshop, "Go Get that Photograph" where several of the show's photographers will walk through downtown and work with 10 to 15 youth and give them lessons in photography and image-building. The workshop is scheduled from 1-2:30 pm.
937 Liberty Avenue is a gallery space of The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. This exhibition is funded by the Multicultural Arts Initiative.
